Post-Christmas, the kitchen always needs a good deep clean. Between extra cooking, hosting, kids being home more, and the general busyness of the season, things tend to pile up – and by the end of the year, I usually just let a few things go.

This is the perfect time for a reset.
To wipe everything down, clear out the clutter, get systems back in place, and create a kitchen that actually makes cooking and everyday life feel easier again.

For me, a kitchen reset isn’t about reorganizing the pantry or making everything look perfect. It’s about creating simple stations for the tools and items I use most, so I’m not searching for things every time I make a meal.

Step 1: Reset With Purpose (Not Perfection)

I start small and keep it realistic:

    • Clear one drawer or cabinet at a time

    • Wipe everything down

    • Remove anything that no longer supports how we use the kitchen

I don’t try to tackle the entire kitchen in one day. Even resetting one or two areas can make the space feel calmer and more functional.

Step 2: Create Stations Based on Real Life

Instead of organizing by category, I organize by routine – grouping together the items I find myself grabbing again and again.

    Lunch Prep Station

All lunch food lives in the pantry, but this station holds the tools I use every single day when making lunches.

    What goes here:

    • Sandwich cutters

    • Reusable containers and small bento boxes

    • Napkins, baggies, wraps

    • Packaged sauces (ketchup packets, dressing cups, etc.)

Basically, if I continually find myself reaching for it while making lunches, it belongs here.

    Why it works:

    • Lunch prep is faster and more efficient

    • I’m not opening multiple drawers and cabinets

    • Everything has one clear home to go back to

    Supplement Station

This station keeps our wellness routines simple and consistent.

    What goes here:

    • Daily vitamins

    • Kids’ supplements

    • Protein powders or drink mixes

    Why it works:

    • No bottles scattered on counters

    • Easy to grab daily

    • Encourages consistency without clutter

    Baking Tools Station

All baking ingredients stay in the pantry—but the tools live together.

    What goes here:

    • Measuring cups and spoons

    • Mixing bowls

    • Spatulas, whisks, scoops

    • Parchment paper and baking mats

    Why it works:

    • No searching mid-recipe

    • Easy to pull everything at once

    • Baking feels more enjoyable and less chaotic

    Everyday Spices

I organize spices—but only the ones I use most often.

    What goes here:

    • Everyday cooking spices

    • Salt and pepper

    • Frequently used blends

Less-used spices are stored elsewhere so this space stays streamlined and functional.

    Why it works:

    • Faster cooking

    • Less visual clutter

    • Everything I need is right where I’m cooking

Step 3: Label Lightly (But Clearly)

I only label when it actually helps:

    • Pantry bins

    • Tool drawers

    • Supplement baskets

Simple, clear labels make it easier for everyone to know where things belong—without adding visual clutter.

    Step 4: Reset Seasonally

I revisit these stations a few times a year, especially during:

    • Back-to-school

    • January resets

    • Summer schedule changes

If something stops working, I adjust it. The goal is progress—not perfection.

Some of my Favorite Cleaning Tips

    1. Heavy-Duty Counter + Cabinet Cleaner

    (Best for post-holiday grime)

This is my go-to when the kitchen really needs a deep clean.

    You’ll need:

    • 1 gallon warm water

    • 1 tablespoon powdered Tide

    • ⅓ cup bleach

    How to use:
Mix everything in a bucket or large container. Use a cloth or sponge to wipe down countertops, cabinet fronts, baseboards, and high-touch areas. Rinse with clean water if needed and dry with a towel.

    Why I love it:

    • Cuts through grease and stuck-on messes

    • Great for cabinets and heavily used surfaces

    • Makes everything feel truly clean

    ⚠️ Safety note:
Only use in a well-ventilated area and never mix bleach with vinegar or ammonia. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.

    2. Everyday All-Purpose Cleaner

    (Perfect for daily resets)

This is my favorite for quick wipe-downs and maintenance cleaning.

    You’ll need:

    • 1 cup white vinegar

    • 1 cup water

    • 1–2 teaspoons Dawn dish soap

    How to use:
Mix in a spray bottle and use on counters, stovetops, sinks, and tables.

    Why I love it:

    • Gentle but effective

    • Cuts grease without harsh chemicals

    • Easy to make and easy to grab

👉 Tip: Skip this cleaner on natural stone surfaces like granite or marble.

    3. Gentle Soap + Water Spray

(Kid-friendly & safe for frequent use)

When I want something super simple and gentle, this is it.

    You’ll need:

    • Warm water

    • A few drops of dish soap

    How to use:
Mix in a spray bottle and use for quick cleanups, spills, and high-chair or kid-area wipe-downs.

    Why I love it:

    • Safe for everyday use

    • No strong smell

    • Perfect when kids are helping
