My Morning Workout Routine + Favorites I’m Loving Right Now
Let’s be honest—early mornings are rough. But as a mom of three, it’s the only time I can consistently move my body without distractions (or tiny humans climbing on me mid-squat).
I get asked all the time how I manage to work out early in the morning. So today I’m taking you behind the scenes of what a realistic morning workout looks like for me, plus a peek inside the home gym space we recently finished building—and a few favorites I’ve been loving lately to stay consistent, strong, and actually excited to move.
☀️ Morning Routine: The Real Real
Most mornings start with me whispering, “I’m so tired…” while reaching for my pre-workout of choice. It’s the only way I survive those 5:30 a.m. alarms. I’ve been experimenting with fasted workouts, but most days I’ll still grab a little Greek yogurt or blend up my favorite green smoothie (super simple, packed with nutrients, and easy on the stomach).
I always throw on a podcast (the nerdier the better) and get to it.
Today was leg day—which means 30- and 40-pound dumbbells. I’ve been slowly increasing my weights, and it’s wild how much more energized and empowered I feel.
I’ve also started taking creatine daily, and it’s made such a difference in strength and recovery. Highly recommend if you’re in a season of building.
And then… there’s the cold plunge. It’s brutal. It’s amazing. It’s both. 😂
🏠 Our Home Gym Details + Must-Haves
After years of squeezing workouts in wherever I could, we finally built a dedicated space—and I can’t tell you how life-changing it’s been. Our home gym is about 14 x 19 feet with vaulted ceilings. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s already one of my favorite places in the house.
Why I love it:
-
🛁 Includes a half bath (no sweaty sprints across the house)
-
❄️ Has its own heating/air unit (a MUST for year-round use)
-
🚪 Double Andersen sliding doors open to our back deck
-
🌤️ Trex flooring on the deck makes outdoor workouts a breeze
-
🔥 The sauna off the gym is my love language post-leg day
Inside the gym:
Essentials:
-
Rubber flooring
-
Adjustable dumbbells
-
Resistance bands
-
Bench + stability ball
-
Full-length mirror
Nice-to-haves:
-
Towel hooks + basket of fresh towels
-
Diffuser (peppermint in the morning, lavender for cooldowns)
-
Bluetooth speaker
-
Wall-mounted TV + tablet holder
-
Mini fridge for cold water and recovery drinks
