There’s something special about Friendsgiving. It’s less about the perfect tablescape and more about the laughter echoing through the kitchen, everyone showing up with something made from the heart, and that shared moment when you all realize you’ve created something beautiful together.

Whether you’re hosting your closest crew or contributing a dish to the potluck, these recipes bring all the warmth of Thanksgiving with a little extra fun. From golden roasted Cornish hens to soft pumpkin cookies with a cream cheese cloud of frosting — this spread is all about comfort, flavor, and connection.

So grab your apron (and maybe a glass of wine), turn on your favorite playlist, and let’s make a Friendsgiving meal that everyone will be talking about long after the leftovers are gone.

    Cornish Game Hens

Want all the drama of a Thanksgiving turkey but without the hours in the oven? Cornish game hens are your new best friend. They roast in under an hour and make every plate feel personal — no carving required! Each hen gets brushed with olive oil or butter, sprinkled with herbs, and roasted until golden, juicy perfection. It’s the ideal main course when you’re feeding a smaller group or just want to keep things a little fancy (without the fuss).

    Ingredients:

    • 2 Cornish game hens (about 1 to 1.5 lbs each)
    • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
    • 1 tsp salt
    • ½ tsp black pepper
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp paprika
    • 1 tsp dried thyme
    • ½ tsp rosemary (optional)

    Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
    2. Pat hens dry with paper towels.
    3. Rub each with olive oil or melted butter.
    4. Season inside and out with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, and rosemary if using.
    5. Place on a rack in a roasting pan and roast for 45–55 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
    6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

    Bread Stuffing

No Friendsgiving is complete without a side of nostalgia, and this bread stuffing delivers just that. It’s buttery, herby, and loaded with that cozy aroma that makes everyone wander into the kitchen to “just check on things.” Simple ingredients — soft bread cubes, sautéed onions, and plenty of sage — come together to make the perfect traditional side dish. Whether you stuff your hens or bake it in a separate dish, this one tastes like home.

    Ingredients:

    • ½ cup minced onion
    • ½ cup minced celery
    • ¾ cup butter or margarine
    • 9 cups soft bread cubes
    • 1½ teaspoons salt
    • 1½ teaspoons crushed sage leaves
    • 1 teaspoon thyme leaves
    • ½ teaspoon pepper

    Directions:

    1. In a large skillet, cook onion and celery in butter until tender.
    2. Stir in about one-third of the bread cubes and all seasonings.
    3. Transfer to a large bowl; add remaining bread cubes and toss lightly.
    4. Use to stuff poultry just before roasting (makes enough for a 12-pound turkey) or bake separately in a buttered casserole dish at 350°F for 30–35 minutes.

    Brown Butter Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are always a crowd-pleaser, but this version takes them to the next level. Browning the butter adds a deep, nutty richness, and the maple syrup gives a soft sweetness that pairs beautifully with warm cinnamon and nutmeg. And then there’s that topping — glossy, sticky pecans that caramelize in the oven. It’s like dessert disguised as a side dish (and nobody’s mad about it).

    Ingredients for Mashed Sweet Potatoes:

    • 3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
    • ½ cup unsalted butter, browned
    • ½ cup half-and-half
    • ¼ cup maple syrup
    • 1 tsp salt
    • ½ tsp cinnamon
    • ¼ tsp nutmeg

    Ingredients for Sticky Pecan Topping:

    • ¼ cup unsalted butter
    • ½ cup brown sugar
    • ¼ cup maple syrup
    • 1 cup chopped pecans

    Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
    2. Boil sweet potatoes until tender, about 15–20 minutes; drain well.
    3. In a saucepan, brown butter over medium heat until golden and nutty.
    4. Mash sweet potatoes with browned butter, half-and-half, maple syrup, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
    5. Transfer to a baking dish.
    6. For topping, melt butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup together; stir in pecans and cook until sticky, about 3–4 minutes.
    7. Spoon topping over mashed sweet potatoes and bake uncovered for 15 minutes.

    Frosted Pumpkin Cookies

If fall had a flavor, it would be these cookies. Soft, cakey, and full of pumpkin pie spice, they melt in your mouth — especially under that dreamy cream cheese frosting. They’re easy to make ahead and even easier to eat (consider yourself warned). Sprinkle a little extra pumpkin pie spice on top and serve them up for dessert or send your friends home with a few in a cute little bag. Either way, these are the perfect sweet ending to your Friendsgiving spread.

    Ingredients for Cookies:

    • 2 ½ cups (312 g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice, plus extra for sprinkling
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, room temperature
    • ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
    • ½ cup (100 g) packed light brown sugar
    • 1 ¼ cups (305 g) canned pumpkin puree
    • 1 large egg, room temperature
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    Ingredients for Cream Cheese Frosting:

    • 8 ounces (226 g) block-style cream cheese, softened but still cool
    • ¼ cup (56 g) unsalted butter, softened but still cool
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • 1 ¾ cups (210 g) confectioners’ sugar, sifted

    Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
    2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and pumpkin pie spice. Set aside.
    3. In the bowl of a stand mixer (or using a hand mixer), beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
    4. Add pumpkin purée, egg, and vanilla, and mix until combined. Scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl if necessary.
    5. Add flour mixture to wet ingredients and mix just until combined. The dough will be a little sticky and soft.
    6. Use a medium cookie scoop (or spoon) to scoop a heaping tablespoon of dough and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Space cookies about 2 inches apart.
    7. Bake at 350°F for 13–15 minutes, or until the edges are set and the cookies are soft and fluffy. Let cool on the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
    8. For the cream cheese frosting, beat cream cheese and butter together on medium-high speed until smooth, about 30 seconds. Add vanilla and confectioners’ sugar, then mix again just until combined, about 30 seconds more.
    9. Use an offset spatula or knife to frost cooled pumpkin cookies. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and serve.

Friendsgiving is such a reminder that food really is love – shared, savored, and sprinkled with laughter. Whether you’re cooking a little or a lot, the magic happens when everyone gathers around the table, clinks their glasses, and says, “We did it.”

So take a deep breath, enjoy the cozy chaos, and remember: it doesn’t have to be perfect to be memorable. It just has to be made with love (and maybe a little butter).
