This morning looks nothing like my “ideal” routine – and that’s okay.
Right now, all three kids are home sick with the flu, which means our focus has shifted from productivity to getting everyone through the day as healthy and supported as possible. If you’re in a similar season, this one’s for you.
Before anything else, both my husband and I prioritized trying to stay healthy ourselves. When sickness hits the house, we’re very aware that if we go down too, everything becomes harder.
We both started the morning with an immunity shot — not glamorous, but practical. Think less “Pinterest morning” and more “do what you can to keep functioning.”
Appetites are low, energy is lower, so instead of pushing full meals, I leaned into smoothies. It’s one of the easiest ways to get nutrients into their systems without a struggle.
Nothing fancy — just focused on hydration, vitamins, and things that feel gentle on their stomachs. Sometimes the win is simply getting something in them.
Normally, movement helps me feel human again — but right now, I’m working around a herniated disc that’s compressing my spinal cord, so high-impact workouts are completely off the table.
Instead, I kept it realistic and safe: a short ride on the stationary bike. No pressure, no intensity goals — just gentle movement to get blood flowing and help my body feel a little more awake.
I’m sharing the workout outfit I’m wearing, because even on days like this, getting dressed intentionally helps me feel more put together — even if the rest of the day is unpredictable.
I drink my green juice, once again, just trying to get as many vitamins and minerals as I can to stay healthy.
I didn’t deep clean. I didn’t reorganize a closet. But I did vacuum.
Not because I’m trying to be superhuman — but because if I do end up sick, I want the house to feel a little more manageable. Staying on top of the basics right now feels like a form of future self-care.
This morning wasn’t calm or quiet. It was full of thermometers, blankets, couch rotations, and checking in on tiny humans who don’t feel good.
And that’s okay.
This season isn’t about routines — it’s about adjusting expectations, showing up where you can, and letting “enough” be enough.
If you’re in a sick-house phase too, you’re not behind. You’re doing exactly what this moment asks of you.
