Creamy whipped ricotta, juicy summer berries, fresh basil, and crunchy pistachios come together in this beautiful red, white, and blue appetizer that feels both elegant and effortless. Perfect for Fourth of July gatherings, summer cookouts, and patriotic celebrations, this sweet-and-savory dip is a refreshing twist on a classic party starter. Served with crostini, toasted baguette slices, or crackers, it’s the kind of simple yet stunning dish that disappears quickly from the appetizer table.

Red, White & Blue Whipped Ricotta Dip

Ricotta Base

  • 1 cup whole milk ricotta
  • 2–3 tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil (for extra silky texture)
  • Pinch of salt

Berry Basil Topping

  • 1½ cups fresh strawberries, diced (divided)

  • ½ cup fresh blueberries

  • 2–3 tablespoons fresh basil, thinly sliced

  • 1–2 teaspoons honey (optional, depending on the sweetness of your berries)

  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Pistachio Finish

  • ¼ cup pistachios, roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Pinch flaky salt

To Finish

  • Balsamic glaze
  • Flaky salt
  • Fresh cracked black pepper (optional)

For Serving

  • Crostini, crackers, or sliced baguette

Directions:

  1. In a bowl or food processor, combine the ricotta, Greek yogurt, honey, olive oil, and a pinch of kosher salt. Blend for 20–30 seconds until smooth, creamy, and fluffy. Spread onto a shallow serving plate or bowl using the back of a spoon to create swoops and swirls.
  2. Place about ⅓ of the diced strawberries in a small bowl and gently mash with a fork. Stir in the lemon juice and honey, if using.
  3. Fold in the remaining diced strawberries, blueberries, and basil. Let sit for 5 minutes so the strawberries release a little juice.
  4. Heat a small skillet over medium-low heat. Toast the pistachios for 2–3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from the heat and toss with the olive oil and a pinch of flaky sea salt.
  5. Spread a thin layer of the mashed strawberry mixture over the whipped ricotta.
  6. Spoon the remaining berry mixture over the top, allowing some of the blueberries to remain visible for a beautiful red, white, and blue presentation.
  7. Lightly drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  8. Sprinkle with the toasted pistachios, then finish with fresh lemon zest, flaky sea salt, and a few cracks of black pepper, if desired.
  9. Serve immediately with crostini, toasted baguette slices, or your favorite crackers.
