If you’re anything like me, summer break means sunshine, pool days, and… an endless loop of, “Mom, can I have a snack?” I swear, I could take out stock in the snack aisle at this point. But here’s the truth: all those boxes of crackers and granola bars add up fast – in money and in chaos. The wrappers pile up, the kids are somehow still hungry, and I end up frustrated.
So this year, I decided to switch things up – with simple, homemade snacks that are easy to prep, actually filling, and don’t cost a fortune. These are snacks that my kids love, and that I can feel good about. Bonus: they’re great for grabbing on the go or packing for all those summer adventures!
Let’s dive in – because a little planning now means fewer snack runs later.
These are a game changer for busy moms. Packed with oats, peanut butter, a little honey, and mini chocolate chips (plus optional M&M’s for that fun monster cookie vibe), these protein balls are easy to whip up and keep in the fridge for days. They’re perfect for a sweet, satisfying bite that keeps everyone full between meals — no oven required, and no mess.
Think of these as the no-bake bar of your childhood — but mom-approved. With just a handful of pantry staples (Cheerios, peanut butter, honey), you can stir these together in minutes. They’re chewy, lightly sweet, and great for wrapping up and tossing in your pool bag. My kids devour these, and I love that they’re made from ingredients I always have on hand.
Okay, this one is for those crunchy, salty snack cravings. These homemade Cheez-Its are easier than you’d think — with just a few ingredients, you can bake up a big batch of crispy, cheesy crackers that blow store-bought out of the water. I usually double the recipe because they go fast!
This is the simplest snack of all — and probably the most refreshing on hot summer days. Just chop up whatever fresh fruit you have (we love watermelon, strawberries, grapes, and kiwi) and portion it into little mason jars or reusable containers. I keep a stack in the fridge so the kids can grab one anytime. So easy, so colorful, and so much better than those sugary fruit snacks.
The bottom line…
Mama, I see you – doing your best to keep everyone happy, healthy, and fed this summer. And I promise, a little snack prep at the beginning of the week makes life so much easier. No more scrambling when the kids say they’re starving (again). No more last-minute snack runs. Just simple, homemade goodness ready to go.
You’ve got this 💛 – and your future self will thank you for spending a few extra minutes in the kitchen today.
